Practice order: 1 Listening → 2 Speaking → 3 Bidirectional Translation (optional) → 4 Transcript → 5 Useful Expression. Do not read §4–5 or memorize lines before your first blind listen in §1.

1. Listening

Goal: understand the Dialog track without reading along, then check line-by-line in FluentAnyLang. See blind and intensive listening in the methods guide.

Suggested flow:

1. Import the Dialog MP3 and matching .srt (same basename).
2. Free listen — subtitles off or hidden; one full pass.
3. Sentence loop — replay hard lines; use prev/next sentence and segment replay.
4. Optional later pass: Anti-noise listen if you train with ambient noise.

2. Speaking

Goal: move from accurate recall to fluent delivery. Default for NNNN: start with Echo, add Shadowing on a second pass. See speaking methods in the guide.

Echo

Hear the line first, then record your take. Easier than sync shadowing; good first speaking mode for short dialogues.

Suggested flow: Echo mode → one sentence at a time → keep the best take per line.

Record in sync with the original; match rhythm and intonation.

Suggested flow: after Echo feels comfortable → Shadowing on the full Dialog → optional sentence loop on weak lines.

3. Bidirectional Translation

Goal: bridge comprehension and speaking (Luca Lampariello's bidirectional translation). Optional; do after §1–2.

Pick a few lines from §5 Useful Expression (or any line you care about). Without looking at the script:

1. Say the line in English from a Chinese cue (or your L1).
2. Say it back in English from memory after hearing the audio once.
3. Compare with §4 Transcript; repeat until smooth.

Not covered in this session — bidirectional translation not practiced for this episode.

What was the polite request?
If you park your car in the wrong place,
a traffic policeman will soon find it.

During a holiday in Sweden,
I found this note on my car:
'sir, we welcome you to our city. This is a No Parking area.
You will enjoy your stay here if you pay attention to our street signs. This note is only a reminder.'
If you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it!

5. Useful Expression

Patterns worth carrying into your own speech (review after practice):

• you will be very lucky if…
  A good outcome is unlikely unless this happens (often cautionary).
  e.g. You will be very lucky if he lets you go without a ticket. (from the transcript)

  You'll be very lucky if they still have tickets.

• let you go without a ticket
  Not fine you; let you leave without a penalty notice.

  Polite warning: the visit will go well only if you follow a condition.
